Cosmologies. Rethinking Anomalies in Urban and Architectural Research on China and Beyond
The event series Cosmologies. Rethinking Anomalies in Urban and Architectural Research on China and Beyond, curated by China Room PhDdoctoral candidates researchers Giorgia Greco, Valentina Labriola, and Sofia Leoni, together with Alp Arda and Saurajeeta Bose Paul, anticipates the tenth anniversary of the China Room (DAD–DIST) research group.
Starting from the notion of Cosmologies, the series approaches anomalies in urban and architectural research not as marginal exceptions, but as openings onto multiple and coexisting worlds that challenge how spatial transformations in China – and beyond – are usually interpreted.
The programme unfolds through ten events organised around three themes – Global Ruralism(s), Architectural Knowledge, and Infrastructure-led Urbanization – including 3 reading labs, 5 talks with international guests (Victor Muñoz Sanz, Stephan Petermann, Doreen Heng Liu, Zhu Pei, Zhengli Huang), and 2 movie screenings, conceived as spaces for discussion, exchange, and collective reflection.
The first event, entitled #ReadingLab – Global Ruralism(s), will be moderated by Sofia Leoni and introduced by Astrid Safina.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 31 March, 2:30 pm–4:30 pm, in the following two modes:
- in person: Sala Ciribini, Castello del Valentino (Politecnico di Torino)
- online: at this link.
The event is open to all and free. To participate and receive the materials, please write to cosmologies@polito.it.
