Call for abstracts | International Conference: Architectural Education in the 21st Century
Architectural education in the 21st century unfolds within the context of accelerated technological, social, and environmental transformations. The achievements of conventional architectural education reveal the limitations of the discipline in addressing the complex demands of built environment regeneration and contemporary civilizational aspirations.
In contemporary conditions, these transformations are not merely quantitative but epistemological: they redefine the ways in which architecture is conceived, represented, and evaluated. A growing dominance of visual representation is particularly evident, where the image increasingly precedes space and becomes its substitute, while digital tools, including artificial intelligence, are reshaping the very process of design.
Despite its developmental potential, architectural education faces numerous challenges. One of the most prominent is the mismatch between conventional educational paradigms and the speed of technological change. At the same time, the primary mission of architectural education remains the training of architects capable of planning and designing physical, material spaces within formal processes of urban regeneration worldwide.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Researchers, educators, practitioners, and PhD students are invited to submit papers addressing contemporary challenges and transformations in architectural education. The conference aims to bring together diverse theoretical and methodological approaches, fostering critical reflection and knowledge exchange within the context of ongoing technological, social, and environmental change.
The conference welcomes theoretical, empirical, and design-based contributions that address one or more of the thematic areas, as well as those that critically interrogate them or connect them to broader interdisciplinary contexts.
The conference seeks to position architectural education as a dynamic and reflective field that not only responds to but actively shapes contemporary spatial, cultural, and technological paradigms.
At the Conference, papers may be presented in the languages officially used in Montenegro or in English.
The conference is of a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation.
*** Full papers should be submitted in English.
