DIGITAL TRANSITION: Project Showcase of ADDTI

DIGITAL TRANSITION focuses on the underlying scientific issues of human habitation environments and complexity science in architectural design, seeking innovative digital and parametric solutions for architectural design and practice. The ADDTI (Architectural Digital Design Technology Institute from the school of Architecture and Design, Harbin Institute of Technology) deeply integrates intelligent technologies and computational thinking into the architecture industry, successfully applying computational design theories, methods, and technologies to several iconic projects. The exhibition showcases the representative engineering practices of the ADDTI in architecture, urban planning, and interior design over the past five years, exploring the balance between technological rationality and humanistic care. The exhibition is divided into four themes: • Computational Empowerment — Algorithms redefine new dimensions of design; • Nature-Inspired — Tracing inspiration, intelligently translating the spirit of the site; • Revitalizing Cities — Transforming spaces, composing new chapters in urban evolution; • Architects’ Reflections — Humanistic vigilance and social responsibility. The founder of ADDTI, Professor SUN Cheng, serves as the Dean of the School of Architecture and Design at Harbin Institute of Technology. He has received numerous accolades in the fields of architectural design practice, academic research, and education in China.

The exhibition has been organized to celebrate the first year of the co-run educational programme between Politecnico di Torino and Harbin Institute of Technology (one of the best STEM universities in China). In 2024, PoliTo and HIT took a significant step in extending their collaboration to include a co-run undergraduate education programme: Smart Architecture and Construction. The programme is included in the Chinese national general higher education enrolment plan and implements the training programme jointly formulated by both universities. The partnership between PoliTo and HIT dates back to 2007, when the two universities signed their first Memorandum of Understanding and launched their first Double Degree programme in Architecture in 2009.

Taking the occasion of the HIT delegation's visit to PoliTo, the exhibition is designed to showcase the innovative outcomes of this collaboration, highlighting how interdisciplinary approaches and cutting-edge technologies can shape the future of architecture and urban planning. By bringing together students, faculty, and industry professionals, the event aims to foster a dialogue on the role of digital tools in enhancing design practices while emphasizing the importance of sustainability and social responsibility in contemporary architecture. This exhibition not only marks a milestone in the collaboration between PoliTo and HIT but also serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and inspiring future generations of architects and designers.

Opening Date: March 17, 2:00 PM The exhibition will be open to the public. Opening Presentation: March 17, 4:00 PM The HIT delegation will make an opening presentation. Closing Date: March 18, 7:30 PM The exhibition will close.
