AnimalFarm - Book club on Dinesh Wadiwel's work | 1 - "The War Against Animals"
AnimalFarm explores the architectural history of animal farming in Europe and North America, from sixteenth-century Palladian villas until late-twentieth-century automated factory farms.
The project engages with the perspectives of critical animal studies, history of veterinary medicine, and labor history.
AnimalFarm ultimately explores the historical roots of a controversial phenomenon of the Anthropocene, and it fosters an alternative gaze on the spatial, material, and ethical implications of the human-animal relationship through time.
This informal two-part book club focuses on Dinesh Wadiwel’s two major works, The War Against Animals (2015) and Animals and Capital (2023), with the primary aim of bringing together researchers from different backgrounds to foster dialogue and exchange perspectives. The talks will be in English.
1 – On The War against Animals (Brill-Rodopi, 2015)
Are non-human animals our friends or enemies? In this provocative book, Wadiwel argues that our mainstay relationships with billions of animals are essentially hostile, and asks us to interrogate this sustained violence across its intersubjective, institutional and epistemic dimensions.
